I am excited to annouce that in September we will be hosting our first DREAM BIG movie night! DREAM BIG: Engineering Our World” is a movie for all ages — allowing adults to understand and appreciate engineering, and more importantly, enticing our local youth to aspire to become engineers, or at least consider a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) path. Click here to see a trailer for the movie. We encourage all members, friends and families to join us for this special evening. See below for additional details and please spread the word!
I hope you are having a great summer and look forward to seieng you at our DREAM BIG movie night or at our August and September general meetings!
Please join us August 21st for a presentation showcasing the winning Project of the Year by Carrie Poytress of the Montecito Sanitary District. The Miramar Wastewater Lift Station was designed to treat wastewater from the Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito resort with an underground, reinforced concrete dry/wet well lift station layout. The construction involved the lift station floor elevation being 4.5 feet below sea level with an interior elevation of approximately 26 feet; force main piping of approximately 2,700 feet of 6 to 12 inch diameter; and coordination with onsite developers’ ambitious schedule during the Thomas Fire and subsequent debris flows.

Our board had the pleasure to meet with two of our four scholarship winners and their parents to present their awards.
Miss Kelly Espino (Pictured in the center) will be attending the University of California - Los Angeles and plans to focus on structural engineering. Miss Espino is an exemplary student, athlete, and leader of her community who has demonstrated her commitment to improving the lives of those around her. She was valedictorian of her class, captain of her soccer team, president of her school's science club, and volunteered as a tutor; just to name a few of her many accomplishments.
Miss Peyton Erickson (Pictured: second from the left) will be attending the University of Southern and plans to study civil engineering with an environmental concentration. Miss Erickson is also an exemplary student, athlete, musician, and dedicated member of her community who has demonstrated her commitment to helping people in need. Miss Erickson is a lifetime member of the National Honor School, a two time soccer MVP, Principal Violists for her school's orchestra, and worked with Mission Church to organize supplies after the Thomas Fire.
It was a joy being afforded the opportunity to meet Miss Espino and Miss Erickson, as well as their parents who have done amazing job nurturing, guiding, and supporting these remarkable young engineers. We wish both of you the best in you upcoming studies and have every confidence you will continue to excel.
Our board looks forward to meeting our other scholarship winners, Mr. Adrian Montes and Mr. Aldo Infante, in the coming weeks.
